BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday urged certain countries to uphold the one-China principle with concrete actions and refrain from sending any wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the statement in response to a media query about remarks from the recent G7 Leaders' Summit emphasizing the "importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait."
"We firmly oppose certain countries making irresponsible remarks on the Taiwan question and grossly interfering in China's internal affairs," Zhu said, stressing that the Taiwan question is purely an internal affair of China and brooks no external interference.
Zhu urged relevant countries to recognize the danger and harmful nature of "Taiwan independence" provocations.
She also warned the Lai Ching-te authorities that any provocation aimed at seeking "Taiwan independence" will be met with firm countermeasures, and all attempts to collude with external forces in pursuit of independence are doomed to fail.
Zhu also responded to media queries regarding recent actions and statements by the United States, including a bill passed by the House Appropriations Committee that allocates 500 million U.S. dollars for a so-called Taiwan security cooperation initiative.
She urged the U.S. side to earnestly honor its political commitments to China on the Taiwan question, abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-U.S. joint communiques, and handle Taiwan-related issues with utmost caution. ■
