SYDNEY, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Police in Sydney have launched an investigation after gunshots were fired towards a home in the city's northwest.
A statement from police in Australia's state of New South Wales (NSW) said on Thursday that officers were called to reports of shots fired at a house in North Kellyville, 30 kilometers northwest of central Sydney, around 11 p.m. local time on Wednesday.
Officers found that windows and doors at the front of the home had been damaged by several bullets.
Three people, two men and a woman, were inside the home at the time but were not injured in the shooting.
A short time later, emergency services were called to reports of a car fire in a neighboring suburb.
Fire and rescue authorities attended and extinguished the fire, but the car was completely destroyed.
Initial inquiries led detectives to believe that the fire was linked to the shooting.
Police established crime scenes at both locations and have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incidents, including whether the North Kellyville house was the intended target of the shooting. ■
